homeschoolersWe spoke of Mythology, Video production and Sports as possible weekly projects for exploring new horizons in the last blog post. In continuation of the same theme we look at some other activities that can be done each week during the homeschool year besides the curriculum.

For those interested in Music : A concert performance

Your homeschool students may have a musical ear and may play some musical instrument. Plan a recital in front of family and friends with a collection of songs lasting about four songs. Don’t make it too long or it will become tedious for both the performers and the audience. They don’t play any musical instrument as yet? Then try making homemade musical instruments. You will get a lot of ideas for different kinds of instruments online. Make one instrument per person and now practice playing a popular song for the concert performance.

For those interested in Arts : An exhibition for Fund Raising

Does your brood enjoy clay sculpting, painting and drawing? Let them paint or sculpt their hearts out for the week to have at least 10-15 pieces of art. It could be more if they are active. Now plan an exhibition cum sale over the weekend with family and friends attending. Arrange the art in a big room in the house like you would see in a regular art gallery. Let them know in advance what charity cause you are raising funds for. Allow the children to price their products and then donate the profits to this charitable cause. This will help them be socially productive good citizens as well.

For those interested in creative writing : Explore Literature

Is your homeschool student a budding writer who enjoys penning down her thoughts? Pick up books from classical literature and explore them together. Shakespeare, T.S. Eliot, Robert Frost, Robert Louis Stevenson, Mark Twain, and just about any one your child wants to read is okay. Pick up the books in the local library or check on the Amazon Kindle store as many classics are available in the public book domain for free. Have her write a story or poem influenced by the author she likes best at the end of the week.
