homeschool programsOne of the best ways to practice what you have been taught is to do something in the real world with that knowledge. This holds true especially true with the science subjects. That is why we have science experiments to reinforce the theory that you have been taught in class. Use the topics that you teach in your homeschool classroom to give an inventive challenge to your home school students. Here are some ideas that you can give them for building projects around the house.

Build something useful

Start with a problem that need to be solved around the house. Do they need to do some chore regularly that can be done by an invention. Suppose the children are in charge of watering the plants, let them design and construct a drip irrigation system. Have them test the system for a week to see if it really works. Some modifications may be required.

Design something practical and helpful

Is the homeschool classroom in a mess at the end of the work day? How about designing and constructing a good storage system? Special shelves for a cupboard, hooks for cloth bags that can be hung on the wall to hold extra stuff, cardboard boxes that can be recycled to store homeschool material and a whole lot more. let them come up with as many ideas as they can.

Invent a game

If your homeschool students are tired of the board games that they own, allow them to invent a new game. Let them come up with the theme, the images, the rules for playing the game and a prototype on which they can play it. The whole family can play the new game and come up with suggestions for improvements to be made.

Something for the family pet

All pets like to be entertained. For a cat maybe the homeschool students can build a robotic arm for scratching its back? For a dog maybe a lever based system that can throw a ball and play fetch with it. How will you entertain a fish in the fish bowl? Let the homeschool students come up with their own ideas. See what is feasible for them to actually build and make a model.
