The choice to homeschool children is often made for a number of different reasons. Each family is unlike any other and the exact reasons may vary from special needs of the child, to simply not wanting the child to be exposed to unsavory elements in public school. As any homeschool teacher will know there are pros and cons to the system. There are a number of advantages of homeschooling your children, but some of them are so subtle that one can miss thinking about them as pros.
Avoid Early Morning Rush and Rides
The morning is usually the most stressful part of the day as the students have to be on time for the school bus. If the child misses his ride to school the parent is even more hassled. With homeschooling families, this is a non issue. The homeschooling student does not have to be up at the crack of dawn, bathed and fed before class starts. Often breakfast happens after the first class of the day and there is no need to rush through any section of the morning.
No Weather Emergencies and Wasted School Days
The inclement weather may cause public schools to shut down in view of the safety of traversing snow clad roads. However in case of the homeschool student there is no need to step out into the cold. They can get from their bed to the classroom without even donning an extra jacket. Homeschool classes continue as scheduled, unless it was a field trip that was planned for that particular day. Lessons carry on and the school day stays productive.
Full Participation in the Homeschool Class
Regular school teachers may find it difficult to ensure that every student in the classroom gets to participate in every activity that is performed in school. This is never the situation in a homeschool class. The homeschool parent is always calling on the homeschool student for every lesson and activity. The child has no option but to participate in the class. There is no option but to share his thoughts and opinions with the teacher, allowing the development of his communication skills.
